Image of the feature "Miscellaneous: Angle shafts at NE and SE corners of the chancel" at Great Thurlow.
by Ron Baxter.
The shafts have attic bases on square chamfered plinths; the north base worn and original, the south crisper but perhaps a replacement. The shafts rise to a level below the springing of the present east window, that might mark the original height of the chancel. The tops of the shafts, however, have no capitals and end in modern quoins.
